L\u00fcbeck<\/strong> was the capital\u00a0of the Hanseatic League<\/em>\u00a0and a central hub around\u00a0the Baltic Sea<\/em>.\u00a0Today, it is part of the\u00a0UNESCO<\/em> world heritage, being the most visited city in the state of\u00a0Schleswig-Holstein<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The old city center is Germany’s largest historic center with over 100 hectares of streets full of architecture and history.\u00a0The buildings built in the 13th century are still inhabited, and the narrow streets, paved in a medieval spirit, are lined with cafes, terrace shops and restaurants.<\/span><\/p>\n

The weather didn’t cooperate with us, so we just took a walk through the old center, with the idea that on our next visit we will discover the city at our leisure.\u00a0Below, I leave you a list of what we visited, a small part compared to what the wonderful L\u00fcbeck has to offer.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Holstentor<\/span><\/strong> guards the western entrance to the old town and is a well-known landmark throughout Germany. <\/span>The Gothic-style gate was built in 1464 and today houses a small museum that presents the history of L\u00fcbeck as a Hanseatic city (price: \u20ac8\/person).\u00a0In medieval times, L\u00fcbeck was considered to be an important city and owes its success to merchants.\u00a0The Holsten Gate became the proud symbol of L\u00fcbeck \u2013 as a free imperial city.<\/span><\/p>\n
