We were in Vienna<\/strong> in 2015 and visited the city with the\u00a0Vienna Pass<\/strong>.\u00a0For 48 hours we paid 82\u20ac\/person and it includes entrances to museums, public transport, cruises on the Danube and\u00a0Hop On Hop Off<\/em> bus tours.\u00a0The card can be ordered online and then picked up at the airport or city center.\u00a0On the website<\/a> you can also find a brochure with the museums to which the entrances are included.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although it is a typical European city, similar to Rome<\/a>,\u00a0Paris<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0London<\/a>, Vienna is easy to visit, with most attractions located in the center.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sch\u00f6nbrunn Palace<\/strong> (Schlo\u00df Sch\u00f6nbrunn<\/strong>) \u2013 the former summer residence of the Habsburg imperial family is one of the most impressive works of Baroque architecture.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n

Legend has it that Emperor Maximilian II purchased the land on which the palace stands today and in 1569 converted the existing castle into a hunting lodge. His son, Emperor Mathias, during a hunting party came across a meadow and exclaimed “So ein sch\u00f6ner Brunnen” (“what a beautiful fountain”) – hence the name Sch\u00f6nbrunn.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n

The palace is worth visiting not only for its magnificent architecture, but also for the gardens that surround it and the world’s first zoo.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sch\u00f6nbrunn houses 1,441 rooms and suites, including those once used by Empress Maria Theresa.<\/span><\/p>\n

The park and gardens are another point of attraction, being included in the UNESCO World Heritage.\u00a0Inside the park are statues, buildings, labyrinths, greenhouses and fountains.<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the highlights is\u00a0Neptune’s Fountain<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 a baroque sculpture depicting a mythical scene featuring the Sea Goddess\u00a0Tethis<\/em>, her son\u00a0Achilles<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Neptune<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Crossing the gardens can also be done with a little train, which reaches\u00a0<\/span>the Zoo<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0– the first zoo in the world dating back to 1752 and housing over 750 species of animals.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We included\u00a0the imperial tour<\/em>\u00a0of the Palace (22 rooms) and free audio guide with the Vienna Pass, plus entrance to the Zoo, the gardens, the labyrinth and entrance to the Palace kitchen, where we saw how it is prepared and tasted the famous Viennese strudel.\u00a0The ticket costs between \u20ac16\/person (Imperial Tour) and \u20ac20\/person (Grand Tour).<\/span><\/p>\n

Hofburg Palace<\/strong>.\u00a0For more than six centuries, the Hofburg was the official residence of the Austrian sovereigns, starting from 1275 until 1918. The complex comprises 18 groups of buildings, including 19 courtyards and 2,600 rooms, where important attractions such as the Sisi Museum<\/strong>, The Silver Collection<\/strong>,\u00a0the Imperial Chapel<\/strong>\u00a0and the Hofburg Treasury<\/strong>.\u00a0Today, the Palace houses the offices of the Federal President, Ministers and State Secretary of Austria, as well as part of the National Library.<\/span><\/p>\n

Entrance to the Palace costs between \u20ac14 and \u20ac30\/person, depending on how many attractions you want to see.\u00a0With the Vienna Pass, entry is free.<\/span><\/p>\n

Among the most important attractions is\u00a0the Belvedere Palace<\/strong>, built in the Baroque style for\u00a0Prince Eufen of Savoy<\/em>.\u00a0The Belvedere domain includes two castles:\u00a0Belvedere Inferior (Unteres)<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Superior (Oberes)<\/em>.\u00a0The two are linked by beautifully landscaped gardens with fountains, steps, statues and small waterfalls.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The two palaces house museums with rich frescoes, paintings and sculptures.\u00a0In 1803, the first alpine garden was designed near the Belvedere Palace and today it houses over 4000 plants from the alpine ecosystem.\u00a0The right time to visit the Belvedere is late spring – early summer, as the landscape is spectacular thanks to the flowering plants that give the gardens an explosion of color.<\/span><\/p>\n

Saint Stephen’s Cathedral\u00a0<\/strong>(Stephansdom)<\/strong>\u00a0is a building built in late Gothic style in 1147 and is located in\u00a0Stephansplatz<\/em>.\u00a0The cathedral is one of Vienna’s landmark monuments, with its Gothic exterior design, down to the dominating tower and main roof adorned with hundreds of colorful tiles that form an interesting pattern.\u00a0Inside the church there are a total of 18 altars, several smaller chapels and even some tombs and catacombs.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Is there a better way to experience life in Vienna than to have a fun-filled day at\u00a0the Prater Park<\/strong>?\u00a0The<\/em>\u00a0Wiener Prater<\/em>\u00a0Park<\/em> was once a hunting ground that turned into a public space for food stands and stalls, and now houses the impressive amusement park.<\/span><\/p>\n

The most famous attraction is the huge wheel (Wiener Riesenrad<\/strong>) 65 meters high from where you can admire Vienna (ticket price: \u20ac12\/person, free with Vienna Pass).\u00a0In addition to this, the park also includes 250 other attractions, such as little trains, carts, mountain rousses, carousels, minigolf, but also cafes and terraces.<\/span><\/p>\n

Also in the park is\u00a0<\/span>the Madame Tussauds Museum<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0– the famous wax museum, with over 80 figures, including: Emperor Franz Joseph and his wife, Sisi, Mozart, Maria Theresa, Einstein, Johnny Depp, Angela Merkel, Barack Obama and many others.\u00a0<\/span>The ticket price is \u20ac24\/person, \u20ac16.8\/person if you purchase the\u00a0ticket online\u00a0or free with the Vienna Pass.<\/span><\/p>\n
