Wolfgangsee<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0is one of countless glacial lakes in the heart\u00a0<\/span>of\u00a0<\/span>Austria’s <\/span><\/em>Salzkammergut<\/span><\/em> region.\u00a0<\/span>Towns, villages and mountain resorts such as Sankt Gilgen<\/em>,\u00a0Ried<\/em>,\u00a0Sankt Wolfgang<\/em>\u00a0or\u00a0Strobl<\/em> stretch along the lake.\u00a0We visited two of these cities, which I will tell you about below.<\/span><\/p>\n

The lake stretches over a huge surface and is surrounded by mountains that are perfectly reflected in the clear sheen of the water.<\/span><\/p>\n

The snow-capped mountain peaks accentuate the gorgeous scenery, and if you want a quiet vacation away from the pollution of big cities, you will surely find the perfect place here.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Sankt Wolfgang<\/strong>\u00a0is a small mountain town located only 50 kilometers from\u00a0Salzburg<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0You can take a walk through the narrow streets, among guesthouses, restaurants, shops, hotels and houses with beautifully painted facades.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n

Because\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>Christmas<\/span><\/em>\u00a0season had already passed, we didn’t have the opportunity to visit\u00a0<\/span>the Christmas Market<\/span><\/em>, but the ornaments and Christmas<\/em> lights were still there and reminded us of the holiday.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Going down the gentle slopes you can easily reach the shores of Lake<\/em>\u00a0Wolfgang<\/em>\u00a0from where you can admire the city.\u00a0We took a ferry for which we paid \u20ac16\/person\/round trip and took a short walk to <\/span>Sankt Gilgen<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Sankt Gilgen<\/strong>\u00a0is one of the small towns on the western shore of Lake<\/em>\u00a0Wolfgang<\/em>\u00a0and also a mountain resort.\u00a0It is located about 30 kilometers from\u00a0<\/span>Salzburg<\/span><\/a><\/em>, and the ferry ride from\u00a0<\/span>St. Wolfgang<\/span><\/em>\u00a0took around 30-40 minutes, during which time you can drink tea, coffee or wine and admire the beautiful scenery.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Once you arrive in\u00a0Sankt Gilgen<\/strong>, you can cross the town of particular beauty on foot in just a few hours.\u00a0Whether you’re walking along the lake shore or into the old town on the cobbled streets, you’ll be impressed by everything that comes your way.<\/span><\/p>\n

Near the lake is the house where the\u00a0Mozart<\/em>‘s mother was born and where his sister lived. Portraits of the composer’s mother and sister are drawn on one of the exterior walls of the house.<\/span><\/p>\n

Moving forward, you reach\u00a0<\/span>Mozartplatz<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0where you will find the\u00a0<\/span>Rathaus<\/span><\/strong> (<\/span>Town Hall<\/span><\/strong>) \u2013 a special building in front of which there is a small fountain with a bronze statue of\u00a0<\/span>Mozart<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

From\u00a0<\/span>Sankt Gilgen<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0you can take the cable car to the top of the\u00a0<\/span>Zw\u00f6lferhorn<\/span><\/strong>, at 1522 meters, from where you can admire the city, the ridges that surround the lakes, but also\u00a0<\/span>Wolfgangsee<\/span><\/em>,\u00a0<\/span>Mondsee<\/span><\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Atersee<\/span><\/em>.\u00a0<\/span>Details on the timetable or prices can be found\u00a0here<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What conclusion did we draw after visiting a small region of\u00a0Austria<\/em>?\u00a0\u2013 here you can find splendid places with wonderful landscapes, villages with a fairy tale atmosphere and welcoming people.\u00a0<\/span>If I have convinced you, stop thinking and prepare your bags!\u00a0For us it was a wonderful experience that we will definitely repeat, possibly during the summer.\ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n
