We had the chance to visit Mozart<\/em>‘s city in winter and I can say that\u00a0Salzburg<\/em>\u00a0is a place that combines history and music in a pleasant way, being a spiritual and cultural symbol of this country.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you have the opportunity to visit the homelands of the musical genius, the great\u00a0<\/span>Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart<\/span><\/em>, you will be fascinated from the first visit and you will love them, regardless of the season.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n

The salt mines near\u00a0Salzburg<\/em>\u00a0are what gave the name to the city and the\u00a0Salzkammergut<\/em>\u00a0region (salz=salt), while bringing prosperity to the territory traversed by the\u00a0Salzach<\/em> River.<\/span><\/p>\n

Salzburg<\/strong> is a small city and the capital of the federal state of the same name, located on both banks of the Salzach<\/em> River, near the northern foothills of the\u00a0Alps<\/em>\u00a0and the border with\u00a0Germany<\/em>. The historic center of the city, with its rich mix of art and architecture, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List<\/em>\u00a0in 1996.<\/span><\/p>\n

Salzburg<\/b>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0as the city of Mozart<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Mozart<\/em>\u00a0was born in\u00a0Salzburg<\/em>\u00a0in 1756. The house in\u00a0Mozartplatz<\/strong>, where he lived, and his birthplace in Getreidegasse <\/em>are today museums and remind us of the extraordinary childhood of the famous composer. After his years in Salzburg<\/em>, Mozart<\/em>\u00a0eventually moved to\u00a0Vienna<\/em><\/a>, where he died at the young age of just 35.<\/span><\/p>\n

The house where\u00a0Mozart<\/em> was born\u00a0contains exhibits such as the violin with which\u00a0Mozart<\/em> gave concerts, the violin he played as a child, letters and portraits.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hours: daily 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., July and August 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Price: \u20ac11\/adult; \u20ac3.5\/child 6-14 years; \u20ac4\/adolescent 15-18 years old.<\/span><\/pre>\n

Rehearsals and social gatherings took place in the\u00a0<\/span>Mozart Residenz<\/span><\/b>, but it is also the most important place where <\/span>Mozart<\/span><\/em>\u00a0composed some of his most important masterpieces.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Salzburger Dom<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0Domplatz<\/b> \u2013 the site where the Salzburg <\/strong>Cathedral<\/strong>\u00a0is located today\u00a0has been a holy place used since the Celtic and Roman periods of the city.\u00a0The cathedral is where\u00a0Mozart<\/em> was baptized, and the fountain used is still in existence near the entrance to the dome.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Hohensalzburg\u00a0<\/b>Fortress<\/b>, the city’s landmark and one of\u00a0Salzburg<\/em>‘s major tourist attractions, dating back to the Ottoman Empire<\/em>, is the largest intact fortress in\u00a0Central Europe<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Inside there are several museums, children’s play areas, restaurants and souvenir shops.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n
The panorama of the city seen from the hill where the fortress is located leaves you speechless.\u00a0One can see the whole city, the great dome, the mountains and the river\u00a0Salzach<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n
The fortress can be reached by funicular or on foot.<\/span><\/p>\n
\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n
Mirabell\u00a0<\/b>Palace<\/b> and Gardens<\/strong>.\u00a0The beautiful building was built in 1606 by the\u00a0Archbishop of Raitenau<\/em> for his mistress, Salome Alt<\/em>, and was originally called\u00a0Altenau<\/em>. After the 18th century reconstruction it was renamed Mirabell<\/em>.\u00a0The gardens were opened in 1730 and are recognized thanks to several sequences from the famous film\u00a0The Sound of Music<\/a>.\u00a0<\/i>Our only regret is that we saw the gardens in a winter, at the end of the day.\u00a0We will definitely be back in the summer when they are full of color.<\/span><\/p>\n
\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n
Getreidegasse<\/b>\u00a0is the busiest street in\u00a0Salzburg<\/em>\u00a0and famous for its shops, courtyards and passages.\u00a0It is the lively heart of the old town and the birthplace of\u00a0Mozart<\/em>, making it an irresistible destination for countless visitors from around the world.\u00a0Most of the houses on either side of the shopping street were built between the 13th and 16th centuries and today house shops and restaurants on the ground floor.<\/span><\/p>\n
The Residenz Palace<\/b>\u00a0was the official residence of the\u00a0Prince Archbishops of Salzburg<\/em>. Built in the Baroque style, the Residenz Palace<\/em>\u00a0is the most important tourist and historical attraction in\u00a0Salzburg<\/em>, along with\u00a0Salzburger Dom <\/em>and Hohensalzburg Castle<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n
\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n
Other tourist attractions:\u00a0Zoo<\/em>,\u00a0Spielzeug<\/em> Museum<\/em>,\u00a0Natural History Museum <\/em>(<\/em>Haus\u00a0der Natur<\/em>),\u00a0Hangar 7<\/em>\u00a0(an aviation museum or rather a private collection of cars, helicopters and planes owned by\u00a0Red Bull<\/em>. The main attraction is the suit with which\u00a0Felix Baumgartner<\/em>\u00a0jumped from the\u00a0Stratosphere<\/em>).<\/span><\/p>\n
