The Grande-\u00cele<\/em>\u00a0contains a remarkable monumental ensemble, among which are the\u00a0Cathedral of Notre Dame de Strasbourg<\/strong>, together with the\u00a0Oeuvre Notre Dame<\/em>, the\u00a0Palais Rohan<\/em> and 4 old churches (St. Thomas<\/em>,\u00a0St. Pierre-le-Vieux<\/em>,\u00a0St. Pierre-le Jeune<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0St. Etienne<\/em>).<\/span><\/p>\n

The Cathedral of Notre Dame de Strasbourg<\/strong>\u00a0is known as one of the most beautiful Gothic cathedrals in\u00a0Europe<\/em>, being located on the site of a former Roman temple.<\/span><\/p>\n

Inside the cathedral, in addition to the stained glass windows dating from the 12th-14th centuries, there is a specific work of the Renaissance: a mechanical astronomical clock.\u00a0Swiss watchmakers, painters and sculptors worked together to build this mechanism that dates back to 1842. The clock measures 18 meters in diameter, making it one of the largest in the world.\u00a0There is no charge to visit the interior of the cathedral, but to go up and see the panorama of the city it is \u20ac5\/person.<\/span><\/p>\n

Palais Rohan<\/strong>\u00a0was built between 1732-1742, being one of the most beautiful creations of French architecture of the 18th century.\u00a0After the Revolution, the palace became the royal residence of the Emperor and entered a new era, after 1870, as a museum.\u00a0Since then it houses\u00a0the Archaeological Museum<\/em>\u00a0(basement),\u00a0the Decorative Arts Museum <\/em>(ground floor) and\u00a0the Fine Arts Museum<\/em>\u00a0(first floor).<\/span><\/p>\n

Petit France<\/strong>\u00a0is another tourist attraction \u2013 a district of\u00a0Strasbourg<\/em>\u00a0which, in\u00a0the Middle Ages<\/em>\u00a0, was home to the city’s tanners, millers and fishermen.\u00a0Now it is one of the main attractions, where you can choose between relaxing on a terrace or strolling through the narrow, colorful streets, especially in the warm season, when a multitude of flowers spill from the windows.<\/span><\/p>\n

Vauban Barrage<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 was built in the 17th century and is a dam that was mainly used as a bridge and as a defensive structure.\u00a0<\/span>You can climb to the roof terrace of the bridge and the panoramic views of the\u00a0Petite-France<\/em>\u00a0district and the\u00a0Ponts Couverts<\/em>\u00a0are extraordinary.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n

Before the construction of the\u00a0Vauban<\/em> Dam, the\u00a0Ponts Couverts<\/strong>\u00a0were the main defensive structures of\u00a0Strasbourg<\/em>.\u00a0 hey were officially opened in 1250. The name comes from the wooden roofs that were built over the bridges to protect soldiers in times of war, but were removed in 1784. However, the name remains and the site is now classified as a historical monument. The Ponts Couverts<\/em>\u00a0are a spectacular way to cross the four canals that run through the heart of\u00a0Petite-France<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

These are just some of the attractions offered by\u00a0Strasbourg<\/em>.\u00a0You can also explore\u00a0Kleber Square<\/em>\u00a0,\u00a0the Museum of History<\/em>\u00a0or\u00a0Printemps<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 where you can find a wide range of luxury brands under one roof.\u00a0This is the ideal place to spend a rainy afternoon in the city.<\/span><\/p>\n

Because\u00a0Strasbourg<\/em>\u00a0is built around the\u00a0Rhine<\/em>\u00a0River , a great way to see the city is on a boat trip \u2013 the\u00a0Batorama<\/a><\/em>\u00a0\u2013 which offers a 70-minute route with an audio guide available in several languages.<\/span><\/p>\n
