Dortmund<\/span><\/strong>, located in the region\u00a0<\/span>of North Rhine-Westphalia<\/span><\/em>, is the eighth largest city in\u00a0<\/span>Germany<\/span><\/em>, being crossed by the\u00a0<\/span>Ruhr<\/span><\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Emscher<\/span><\/em> rivers, but also by the\u00a0<\/span>Dortmund-Ems<\/span><\/em> canal, on which the largest canal port in\u00a0<\/span>Europe<\/span><\/em> is located.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Dortmund<\/strong>\u00a0is one of the most famous cities in\u00a0Germany<\/em>, thanks to the\u00a0Borussia Dortmund<\/strong>\u00a0team – the most successful football club in the country, founded in 1909. In addition,\u00a0Dortmund<\/em> is also called the “green metropolis<\/em>” of the\u00a0Westphalian<\/em> region, known for the wide green area it offers to locals and nature lovers.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you arrive in\u00a0Dortmund<\/em>, we recommend you take a walk through the\u00a0Westfalenpark<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 one of the largest urban parks in\u00a0Europe<\/em>, where the\u00a0Florianturm<\/strong>\u00a0television tower (209 meters high) is also located.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n

With a total area of \u200b\u200b70 hectares,\u00a0Westfalen Park<\/strong>\u00a0is home to the\u00a0Deutsches Rosarium<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 with 3000 different types of roses.\u00a0Unfortunately, we visited the city in December and could not see the roses.\u00a0However, we had very good weather, with sunshine, as you can see in the pictures.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to the tower and the rose garden, the park also has a puppet theater (Nostalgisches Puppentheater<\/strong>), the\u00a0Sessellift des Westfalenparks<\/strong> \u2013 a chair lift that crosses the park at a height of 23 meters (it is open from April to October and on public holidays, between 12:00 and 17:00. The route is about 500 meters long and takes about 3 minutes), a little train that can take you around the whole park, mini golf courses, a Japanese garden, amphitheater or areas playground for children.\u00a0The entrance ticket to the park is \u20ac3.5\/person and includes visiting the tower.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another point of interest is the\u00a0Dortmunder U\/U-turm<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 a building built in 1926 which was until 1994 the place of fermentation and storage of the beer produced by the\u00a0Dortmunder Union<\/em>.\u00a0In 2010, the building was rehabilitated and became the “U Center for Art and Creativity \u2013 Dortmund<\/em>“, housing modern art galleries.\u00a0The U-turm<\/em> is 70 meters high and can be visited<\/a> from Tuesday to Friday between 10:00 and 20:00 and on weekends between 11:00 and 18:00.<\/span><\/p>\n

A well-known tourist area is the\u00a0Alter Markt<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 the old town center full of numerous shops, boutiques, galleries, cafes and restaurants.\u00a0Besides these, there is also the old town hall (Altes Stadthaus<\/strong>) \u2013 a neo-renaissance structure built in 1899, on which is represented the vast eagle from the coat of arms of the city of\u00a0Dortmund<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n

H\u00f6rder Burg<\/strong>\u00a0is another tourist attraction that you should see.\u00a0The castle was built in the 12th century, over the years it was the seat of the nobility and the administrative office of the former\u00a0Hoesch AG<\/em>\u00a0(an important steel and mining company in the\u00a0Ruhr<\/em>\u00a0area , founded in 1871).\u00a0After the abolition of the steelworks, a complete renovation of the castle began, and today it houses a small museum where the history of the hordes from the\u00a0Middle Ages<\/em>\u00a0to the present day is documented.\u00a0In the immediate vicinity is\u00a0Phoenix Lake<\/strong>\u00a0– built on October 1, 2010, on the site of the former steel mill.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other sights that you should not miss if you arrive in\u00a0Dortmund<\/em>\u00a0are:\u00a0Westfahlenstadion<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 the symbol of the city (recently named\u00a0Signal Iduna Park<\/strong>), the stadium of\u00a0Borussia Dortmund<\/em>;\u00a0ZOO Dortmund<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Hohensyburg<\/strong>, located 12 km away from\u00a0Dortmund<\/em>\u00a0– there are the ruins of a medieval castle, but also a viewpoint towards the\u00a0Ruhr<\/em> river valley.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dortmund<\/strong>\u00a0offers a variety of sights, shows, restaurants and major events hosted by the\u00a0Westfalenhallen<\/em> complex; the locals are welcoming to tourists and eager to share their history with those who visit, so you can relax on a city break in their city. A little tip from us: visit Dortmund<\/em>\u00a0in summer or autumn to see what the city’s beautiful parks and gardens have to offer.<\/span><\/p>\n
